European Business News(EBN) was a business news channel operated by Dow Jones and Flextech (now Virgin Media Television) prior to its merger with CNBC Europe.   Several presenters, who are currently still with CNBC in Europe, moved over to the entwork from EBN, the most notable of whom is Ross Westgate.   Like their counterparts in the Asia Pacific region at the time, both CNBC Europe and EBN struggled for enough of the market share to survive, and it became increasingly clear that pooling resources in the form of a merger would be the only way either would survive.  EBN struggled for content, and CNBC Europe struggled for distribution, something each other had.

EBN was carried on cable and satelite, timesharing with Bravo on the latter, and broadcast 24 hours a day on the former.  The merger gave the staff of EBN that made the crossover access to the unrivalled news resources of The Wall Street Journal, whilst giving CNBC Europe exposure onto cable and satelite networks across the United Kingdom and Europe.
