British media regulator, the Office of Communications has signalled that it intends to revoke Press TV's UK broadcasting licence, despite the channel's broadcasts mostly originating from London.
Ofcom warned the broadcaster that it would face a heavy fine or the revokation of its broadcasting licence following a serious breach of the broadcasting code after the channel aired an interview with Maziar Bahri, a jailed journalist. It was claimed that he was forced to read from a prepared script.
In an article on the Press TV website, political analyst Ismail Salami said that he believes that intellectual terrorism, or “any act of executing the spirit of truth or silencing the voice of justice,” has been waged upon those who in one way or another, voice opposition to the violation of human rights and international law committed by the Zionist regime and governments supporting it.
The article also went on to say "It is not difficult to understand the motives behind Ofcom's actions against Press TV, because the news channel has criticized British police brutality against student protesters, the “exorbitant expenditures of the royal wedding,” and most importantly, it has always criticized the Zionist regime and supported the Palestinian cause."
Press TV have the right to submit a final appeal before Ofcom delivers its final decision on the matter, which is expected before the end of year.
